Like Miles himself, this book holds nothing back. Here are the jazz greats who destroyed themselves in pursuit of women, drugs and food; and Miles' own heroine addiction. It talks about the white promotors and producers who exploited black musicians, as well as the critics who do not know what they are talking about. And here too are the great passions of Mile's life: music, of course, but also clothes, women, horses and cars. For the first time Miles describes his mysterious five-year absence from the music scene and his triumphant return. And we learn of his being lionized by long-time lover Juliette Greco and Jean-Paul Sartre in existentialist Paris, as well as getting valuable insights into the playing and individual talents of his famous musical contemporaries - John Coltrane, Herbie Hancock, John McLaughlin, Thelonious Monk and many more.
