Early in the Great War, the B.E.F. under the joint command of General Sir Douglas Haig and General Sir Horace Smith-Dorrien set out to hold the Flemish country around the town of Ypres, Belgium against the Kaiser's troops. The cavalry that had arrived in france was worn and of little use in a war fought from trenches. These 220 pages (incl. Biblio and a section of b/w photos) cover the strategies of both sides in one of WWI bloody campaigns. Cond : Paper wrapper is yellow with 3 b/w photos of soldiers in a trench, etc. All corners soft, edges similar. Colours bright, binding decent, spine curled but decent.
