There is a strong tendency at the present time to favor giving one course in the early part of the high school curriculum, and to supple ment it with another towards the end of it. For such a division of the work, though there is no uniformity, the most recent writers favor end ing the first course with the simplest cases of simultaneous quadratics. Because of this, the matter on qu'adratics is divided into two chapters.
