Excerpt from Quaestiones Lucianeae
Cognitas habebat. Nunc quoque multum abest ut haec quaestio de omnibus Luciani scriptie ad finem perduci possit, de uno autem vel altero quae certo investigantur, ex iis de ceteris indicare non licet, cum plurimi qui extent Luciani codices neque omnes eadem scripta neque eodem ordine contineant neque in singulis quae exhibent eadem fide digui sint. Sed alia via, sane molesta et taedii plena, licet totam rem non sane omnìno absolvcre, ita tamen illustrare ut de singulis multo minore ditfi cultate iudicari possit. Ad ordinem enim quo singali libelli in variis codicibus traduntur si quis accuratius attenderit, et codicum familias, quas duas esse dadam perspectum est, facile poterit rectius et certius quam adhuc factum est distinguere ct, quod gravissimum est, codices e varns fontibus mixtos et interpolatos discernere ab iis qui vctus archetypum fideliter sequuntur. A cor paris igitur operam Lucianeorum historia profectus quaestionem aggressus sum, idque ita, ut codices longe plurimos, quorum nullum in hac rc usum esse perspexe ram, ne commemorarem quidem, de singulis autem locis, quos esaminavi quantum fieri potemt omnes, non dispa tarem nisi ubi contra ea quae de codicum ratione expo sueram pugnare videri poterant. Addidi deinde alia (le artis criticae in hoc scriptorc restituendo legibus et in fine de quaesfionibus non aallis dieserai, in quas ipsa disputatione invitante incidi. Sane vel accuratissime omnibus exploratis non tollcntur difficultates quibus crisis Lucianca impedita est, sed hoc praestari poterìt, ut cla rius appareat quibus fontibus quaque ratione utcndum sit ad vetustissimam quam assequi possumus textus for mam rcstituendam.
