But the late senator Douglas, and the congressional delegation of Illinois in 1852, carried the project for ward to completion, by a grant of public lands, by which, under its application, the present railroad com pany has opened up the entire state to cultivation, and provided a handsome revenue besides for the state treasury annually.
But the great work of his mature years in the United States, senate, until recently, seemed to be altogether overlooked.
