Excerpt from Relation of Salinity and Selenium in Shallow Ground Water to Hydrologic and Geochemical Processes, Western San Joaquin Valley, California
Samples of shallow ground water were collected at 118 observation wells dis tributed throughout the study area (fig. Seventy-two of the wells were sam pled during an 18-day period in spring 1984. Forty-six wells were sampled in the spring of 1986. Samples collected at these 46 wells were analyzed for deuter ium and oxygen-18 (fig. The wells are 6 to 10 m deep and constructed of polyvinyl chloride pipe perforated over the entire depth of the well.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the geochemical processes controlling salinity and selenium distribution in the shallow groundwater of California's western San Joaquin Valley. The author elucidates the relationship between these factors and the geomorphology and hydrology of the region's alluvial fans. By examining isotopic data, the author uncovers the history of water movement and evaporation, providing insights into the processes that have shaped the present-day distribution of salinity and selenium. The book explores the impact of irrigation practices on soil and groundwater chemistry, highlighting the role of natural soil salinity in determining present-day groundwater salinity. Through this analysis, the author provides valuable information for managing water resources and mitigating the environmental impacts of agricultural practices in the region.
