La platine est percée à son centre d'une anver ture par où arrive sur l'objet la lumière, soit con centrée par un miroir concave, soit simplement, réfléchie par un miroir plan (fig. 1, M).
Sous l'ouverture de la platine, se trouvent les diaphragmes qui permettent de diminuer la lumière envoyée par le miroir.
Enfin tout l'instrument est supporté par un pied (fig. 1, A).
