Excerpt from Sylloge Inscriptionum Graecarum

The Phratries had significant influence on Athenian society from the 4th century BC to the Roman period. Through collected inscriptions and historical analysis, the author illuminates how these local units operated, the religious practices within them, and how they acted as microcosms of the larger Athenian society, reflecting its politics, religious life, and social dynamics. This book offers a valuable resource for understanding the nature and functioning of social and religious structures in the ancient Greek world. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
