Excerpt from Missouri National Recreational River Management Plan<br/><br/>The physiographic features of the river, which include deep holes, shallows, fast river current, stable river bottom, and shifting sand bottom, may be the last remaining production area for the paddlefish in the Missouri River down stream from Gavins Point Dam. Preservation of the present river setting will give Americans the opportunity to see the river much as it has been through out its significant history. This plan has been prepared to guide the administration of the 58 Â mile reach of the Missouri River from Gavins Point Dam, South Dakota, to Ponca State Park, Nebraska, as a component of the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System Specifically, the plan will provide Congress conceptual management programs ior the administration of the Missouri Recreational River. Additional advanced planning will be required to implement the programs identified in this manage~ ment plan.
