Soft cover. Zustand: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Paperback, xxvi + 204 pages, NOT ex-library. Book looks unread, minor handling wear only: clean and bright throughout with unmarked text, free of inscriptions and stamps, firmly bound. Straight spine. -- This book provides a critical analysis of the legal and political frameworks governing India's "Scheduled Areas," which are constitutionally designated regions with significant tribal populations. The authors investigate the persistent gap between the promise of self-governance enshrined in the Fifth Schedule of the Constitution and the PESA Act of 1996, and the on-the-ground reality. Through detailed examination of laws, policies, and political dynamics, the work untangles the complex reasons why Adivasi autonomy is often undermined, focusing on issues of land alienation, resource extraction, and the failures of administrative and political implementation.
