Satisfaction Guaranteed. A first-rate adventure novel, BARAKA - Arabic for "divine luck" - masterfully combines the solid research and skillful suspense plotting with the moral complexities of Graham Greene. When Martin Laing, Harvard MBA and golden boy at Western-Oriental Oil Corporation, attempts to finesse a lucrative deal for offshore oil permits with Hanoi, Hanoi asks, in exchange, that he unload $5 billion worth of U.S. armaments, tanks, airplanes, and ammunition which were abandoned after the fall of Saigon. The only problem is, the arms and their sale is highly illegal. With the help of Anthony Smith, an old college buddy turned soldier of fortune, Laing, however, does locate a possible client - the dangerous, outlaw Polisario guerillas of the Spanish Sahara, now engaged in a territorial war with Morocco. And it is a client that just could be more trouble than it's worth. A raw, exciting novel of oil, arms, and bloody civil war, BARAKA is also very much the story of love and friendship, and of the ambitions, desires, and values which threaten to rip them apart. And at the novel's core: the great moral conflict when good and evil are not easily discernible - and when the ultimate stakes could mean betrayal and sudden death. Set against the exotic backdrop of Thailand, Vietnam, Morocco, and Algeria, BARAKA weaves a mesmerizing tale of courage and corruption, of dreams found and lost. It is a novel that makes for edge-of-the-seat reading . . . a story you will not soon forget. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 2304ec281
