A Blessing in Disguise is Eleanora E. Tate's third novel in a trilogy of books whose setting is Calvary County on the coast of South Carolina. Its sister books are The Secret of Gumbo Grove, a Parents' Choice Gold Seal Award winner, and Thank You, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.!, a National Council for the Social Studies-Children's Book Council Notable Children's Book, and a Child Study Association Children's Book of the Year. She is also the author of Retold African Myths. Her book Just an Overnight Guest, which was made into an award-winning movie, is a companion to Front Porch Stories at the One-Room School, an American Bookseller Pick of the Lists. Also a journalist, Ms. Tate is a former national president of the National Association of Black Storytellers, Inc. A native of Canton, Missouri, Ms. Tate currently lives with her hu
