First Edition/First Printing with the correct number line (ending in a 2, first printing for Random House at the time); A Good book in a Very Good dust jacket. An ex-library copy of this classic work of literature by the celebrated author; getting more and more uncommon in the first printing. This copy is in good condition with ex-lib markings in a few places, tape residue to the boards and endpapers (the rear endpaper has been excised), and a mild lean to the binding, else the binding is sound with clean white pages. Housed in a clean and crisp very good or better jacket that shows mild rubbing to the edges and spine ends, some faint scratching to the spine and front panel, and a mild fading to the spine lettering. Overall, a nice copy because of the jacket; an opportunity to own a first printing without the high tax! Not remaindered, not price-clipped; in a protective Mylar cover and will ship securely wrapped in a sturdy box. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 4713

This incredible piece of American literary history is now for sale from Bookmans Entertainment Exchange via Augusta Britt, whose relationship with McCarthy was profiled in the Vanity Fair article, "Cormac McCarthy's Secret Muse Breaks Her Silence After Half a Century", published 11/20/24. This inscribed, first edition of "Suttree" was a gift from McCarthy to Britt and has been kept in her personal collection until now. Pulled from the first box of "Suttree" that the author received from the publisher in 1979, McCarthy inscribed it "For Augusta / With all my love / Cormac". During their time in Nashville friends of McCarthy, who were the basis of characters in the book, also inscribed this volume: "For Augusta / Fred L Cash", "Best Wishes / Augusta, / Tom Clancy" and "To Augusta a real nice friend / J Bone". Given the history Augusta Britt shared with the author and the unique inclusion of inscriptions by McCarthy's friends, this association copy of "Suttree" is truly remarkable and not matched anywhere on the market. Bookmans is working with Britt to sell this treasure and to pass along its history to its next keeper. New York: Random House, 1979. First Edition. Hardcover. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers suttree1
