An epic novel of frontier violence along the U.S.-Mexico border that culminates in the April 23, 1850 Yuma Crossing Massacre. An American writer in the Southern gothic tradition whose novels about wayward characters in the rural American Southwest are noted for their dark violence and dense prose, McCarthy (1933-2023) is perhaps best known for his Border Trilogy, which includes the National Book Award-winning novel All the Pretty Horses (1992). Octavo. [ix], 337 pp. Original red paper-covered boards over a red cloth spine with gilt-stamped titles and red-stamped borders. Faint smudge to the fore-edge. First Edition, First Printing with the words First Edition and correct number line printed on the copyright page. Excellent, unread copy of McCarthy s masterpiece, the fifth novel by the unrivaled Pulitzer Prize-winning author. The book block has 2 minor issues: on interior front pastedown, in lower right side is some scuffing (1 x ½ ); and a fairly light water stain(?) on the back board (see photo). Otherwise, the interior is like new, with no writing or marks, and the corners are square, the binding is tight and boards are crisp. No remainder mark. The two bottom corners of the jacket are chipped (see photo) and a very tiny tear at top of front jacket, and lastly, a 2 almost imperceptible crease at the right bottom of the front flap. Otherwise, the jacket is fine with vibrant colors. The corners of the jacket are perfectly square.
