A Fan's Notes: A fictional memoir
Anbieter: Remarks Used Books, Pittsfield, MA, USA
Verkäuferbewertung 5 von 5 Sternen
Soft cover. Zustand: Good. Erstwhile remainder, cover hole-punched, unread, has shelfwear, foxed edges, o/w clean pages, a square & tight binding w/no creases in spine, Good condition. Subtitled 'A Fictional Memoir' and categorized as fiction, the book is semi-autobiographical. In a brief 'Note to the Reader' in the opening pages, Exley writes: "Though the events in this book bear similarity to those of that long malaise, my life, many of the characters and happenings are creations solely of the imagination. In creating such characters, I have drawn freely from the imagination and adhered only loosely to the pattern of my past life. To this extent, and for this reason, I ask to be judged a writer of fantasy." "A FAN'S NOTES is strong, beautiful, American, one of a kind."--Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. "A welcome reminder of what the basic business of literature and of living really is. All fans of art and life should read it."--Jack Kroll, Newsweek. "This is the horrible and hilarious account of a long failure, but a failure which turns into success: the success that this book is. A FAN'S NOTES is one man's life, written with brilliance and insight. No one should have had Exley's life, and no one who has ever read it can forget it."--James Dickey. "Before A FAN'S NOTES, I stand with something like the awe due a miracle."--George P. Elliot. Good copy comes in yellow paperback w/Spanfeller illustration, faded spine, as a handy reading copy. See my listings RUB3113 & RUB874 for the other two books in Exley's trilogy. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers RUB3114

Softcover. Zustand: Fine. Advance Reading Copy. Printed red wrappers. About fine. Inscribed by Exley: "For Burt Britton with all deep affection 11/19/74 Exley, and thank you." Exley's well-received first book, a "fictional memoir" (which seems more memoir than fiction). An exploration of the life of a fan of the New York Giants football team, told between drinking bouts and episodes of madness. A title which in recent years has been steadily gaining recognition as a masterpiece. Famously troubled, Exley wasn't a prolific signer and this is the only signed copy of the Advance Reading Copy that we've seen. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 414163
