This paperback edition appeared in 1997, with the text first published in 1990. The cover shows a black and white photograph of Stockley Bridge, a stone packhorse bridge in Cumberland. The book covers the development of the British landscape from prehistory to Victorian times, with chapters including Roman Britain and discussion of Neolithic sites such as Avebury, Silbury Hill and Grimes Graves, illustrated with black and white photographs and maps. The copyright page carries a Hereford & Worcester County Libraries label with an accession date of December 1997. The cover shows noticeable wear, including a tear and splitting at the lower spine area and marking to the white board. The spine carries a library shelfmark sticker reading BRI.
