Excerpt from Remote Sensing of Water Quality and Weather in Great Smoky Mountains National Park: Phase I
The use of satellite associated data collection platform systems is considered to be a promising method of gathering data from remote natural areas. In response to an invitation from the o.s. Geological Survey's Earth Resources Observation Division, the National Park Service submitted a proposal for the use of the Convertible Data Collection Platforms in gathering data from remote sites in order to determine the validity, reliability, and complexity of such systems.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book demonstrates the feasibility of employing portable, continuous environmental monitoring stations in remote locations. It evaluates the practicality of in-situ monitoring and the attainment of a short information turnaround time. The author presents the problems encountered and operational history of recent experiments which have resulted from the application of satellite monitoring techniques. The book also provides an analysis of the error components from monitoring water quality as related to meteorological conditions. This valuable information can be used to establish an alarm system that will enhance the resources management programs in national parks and other remote natural areas. The author concludes that these systems, once further refined, will meet the need for a comprehensive water quality and environmental monitoring program for remote natural areas.
