Excerpt from Genera Insectorum, Vol. 164: Fascicules CLXIV-CLXIX: 164. Lepidoptera Heterocera, Fam. Glyphipterygidæ; 165. Lepidoptera Heterocera, Fam. Heliodinidæ; 166. Coleoptera, Fam. Histeridæ; 167. Orthoptera, Fam. Locustidae, Subfam. Saginæ
In this family, as in some others, the stalking of vein-s 7 and 8 of forewin'gs is not a reli-able character for generic separation unless supported by other points, and insisten'ce on it would effect unnatural or unnecessary distinctions. The variability of type in the neuration of hindwi-ngs is remar kable, and the differences indicate good genera. The '0celli..vary remarkably in development; in certain genera they are unusually large and con-spicu-ous. The progressive development „of wing-fo-rm in this family is from narrower to broa-der forms, which is.the reverse of the prevailing rule in the Tinei'na generally; as a consequence, there is little tendency to the loss of veins, but 7 of forewmgs IS occasionally coincident with 8, and vein 4 niay disappear in hindwings.
