This, thankfully, aims a little lower and sets out to make music simple?which, depending on how many years you?ve spent staring blankly at a treble clef, may still feel like a minor miracle. Published in 1982, Peter Dimond?s Music Made Simple is one of those reassuring educational books that belongs to an era when learning was expected to involve a pencil, a bit of patience and perhaps the occasional sigh of frustration, rather than a smartphone app congratulating you with animated fireworks for correctly identifying middle C. For anyone who has ever wondered why some notes sit on lines, others perch between them, and why a crotchet isn?t a gardening tool, this book patiently begins to untangle the mystery.
