Kai is a construction industry professional and PhD Candidate (University of New South Wales) with over 13 years of experience having practiced as a lawyer, architect and project delivery manager for leading Australian firms, PPPs and sovereign wealth funds. He has been a trusted professional in the delivery of major projects valued between $50 million and $2 billion. His research involves tracking the impact of COVID-19 on construction workers in Sydney and Melbourne using geographic information systems analytics.
Juan Garzon Romero is a civil engineer who graduated with a Master’s in Construction and Property Management at UNSW and has extensive experience in construction, design, drafting, geographic information systems, and contract administration. He specialises in the development of construction-related virtual simulations to showcase site procedures and assembly methodologies.
Digital Informatics, Visualisation and Virtual Reality in the Built Environment explores the interface between people, digital information and the built environment. It showcases, in-depth, the tools and techniques behind sustainable construction management and urban planning. In addition, it provides readers with a comprehensive understanding of how digital informatics helps leading professionals make informed decisions. Practical examples will be presented, including: (1) a virtual tunnel boring machine which uses real-time data to safely train personnel while monitoring progress on a complex civil infrastructure project; (2) carrying out risk assessments for modular construction using a gaming environment; and (3) using big data and geographic formation systems (GIS) analytics to better understand the impact of urban waste, bushfires, and the pandemic.
