Twin Screw Extrusion (Chemical Engineering Monographs)

Verkäuferbewertung 5 von 5 Sternen
Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. 1st Edition. Hardcover, ix + 172 pages, NOT ex-library. Gently age-toned, clean condition with unmarked text, free of inscriptions and stamps, firmly bound. A touch of external sunning on the spine and boards' edges. Issued without a dust jacket. -- This is a foundational text that established a systematic engineering approach to a technology previously treated as an empirical "black box". It is primarily a study of the relevant phenomena that control the working of counter-rotating intermeshing twin screw extruders. Unlike many modern texts that focus on co-rotating screws (common for high-speed compounding), this monograph provides one of the first rigorous mathematical treatments of counter-rotating, intermeshing systems. These machines are characterized by: - Positive Displacement (the screws transport material in discrete "C-shaped" chambers, making them highly efficient pumps); - Uniform Residence Time [this design is ideal for processing thermally sensitive polymers (like PVC) because it ensures a predictable and narrow residence time distribution (RTD)]. Janssen introduces models for the complex flow of polymer melts, specifically addressing how the degree of meshing influences transport mechanisms. The book also analyzes the efficient micromixing and heat exchange capabilities inherent to twin-screw designs, which were less understood at the time of publication.
