Reseña del editor:
The Monfort Plan is a five-year, forward looking plan to eradicate extreme poverty from the developing world, and details how microfinance has made a difference to developing countries. This book proposes a new institution based in the developing world with the potential to provide a basic, free, and universal service in the areas of water, sanitation, healthcare, and education to the extreme poor worldwide. The provision will be subject to a certain degree of conditionality in areas ranging from corruption to legal environment. The new institution will be established in a new international territory based within a specific country in Subsaharan Africa and will emerge in 2015. In The Monfort Plan author Jaime Pozuelo-Monfort engineers and designs a solution to lessen the burden of poverty. In order to do so he relies on the social sciences to bring about innovation and forward looking economic policies and financial instruments in the context of a paradigm shift. This book presents a multidisciplinary approach to policymaking that combines a range of fields in the social sciences, looking at the history behind the Marshall Plan, the formation of the European Union, and the Bretton Woods Institutions, in order to determine how a Marshall Plan for Africa-and the creation of New Institutions in the developing world-could work. We live a moment of crisis in which creative policymaking might prove useful when proposing outcomes for a revitalized framework for capitalism to thrive and better serve the world. * Walks you through the technicalities of the new architecture of capitalism in a straightforward manner * Provides a holistic view of how microfinance combined with the right economic policies and financial instruments could help change the world for the poor * Contains sweeping and detailed recommendations on how to build a new capitalist paradigm that helps elevate the poor and improve the human condition Incorporating commentary from some of the top minds in the field of microfinance, this book puts the method of microfinance in perspective.
Contraportada:
Praise forTHEMONFORTPLAN ?The Monfort Plan boldly confronts one of the twenty-first century?s most demanding problems: how to improve the living standards of the extremely poor in an effective and sustainable way. The Monfort Plan forces us to look at this dilemma from different perspective and proposes a new paradigm for its solution. Jaime Pozuelo-Monfort has made an invaluable contribution to this critical dialogue.? ?John Danilovich, former CEO, Millennium Challenge Corporation, former U.S. Ambassador to Brazil and Costa Rica? The Monfort Plan is a provocative plan of action whose objective is no less than a redefinition of capitalism and eradication of extreme poverty. The Monfort Plan could reverse the patterns of increasing inequality between the nations that curtail opportunities for personal advancement in poor countries, create political instability, and contribute to high migration. Jaime Pozuelo-Monfort?s ideas are persuasive and may set a new path to bringing prosperity to the extremely poor.? ?Branko Milanovic, Lead Economist, Development Research, The World Bank?In this twenty-first century, capitalism must quickly face its greatest challenge: the alleviation of poverty and the spread of prosperity. Jaime Pozuelo-Monfort understands this deep in his bones. His passion and creativity combine in flinging down the gauntlet to today?s crisis managers and tomorrow?s leaders.??Raymond W. Baker, Director, Global Financial Integrity, Center for International Policy? The Monfort Plan is a brilliant approach to the needed rethinking of global institutions in order to address the major problems facing the world today. It is a challenge to our political leaders to reconceptualize the global economy so as to address the current economic crisis, the dangers of environmental degradation, the lack of economic development, and the problems of economic inequality.??Michael Intriligator, Professor of Economics, Political Science, and Public Policy, UCLA?Jaime Pozuelo-Monfort?s thinking is very fundamental in the development of mankind. His pragmatic way of thinking in restructuring the global economy touches people not only in microfinance but also people in general. It helps to alleviate poverty and to empower the unprivileged, unheard, marginalized, and deprived people of the globe in a sustainable way. His thinking throws a big challenge in the conventional way of solving problems. The present global economic system needs to be changed in order to bring global peace.??Shabbir A. Chowdhury, Director of Microfinance, BRAC
