Although many books on the theory and applications of gas chromatography have been published, the application of gas chromatography to the medical field has been largely ignored. This book describes the techniques of gas chromatography as they are applied to biochemical, biomedical and clinical studies. The subject matter can be divided into techniques and applications. The first half of the book is largely devoted to the instrumentation and equipment used for gas chromatography analysis, while the latter half describes specific applications.

About the editor Ray E. Clement, PhD, is Senior Scientist with the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Laboratory Services Branch. He is also Adjunct Executive Director of the Canadian Institute for Research in Atmospheric Chemistry and Honorary Professor at the University of Western Ontario, Chemistry Department. He has served on the editorial board of the journal Chemosphere and published 75 articles in numerous scientific publications. His books include Basic Gas Chromatography - Mass Spectrometry: Principles and Techniques and Emissions from Combustion Processes: Origin, Analysis, Fate. Dr. Clement received his PhD in analytical chemistry from the University of Waterloo.
Gas chromatography is the subtlest?and possibly the most expert?chemical detective in the complex world of materials analysis. When combined with many of the sensitive detectors now available, gas chromatography provides a means of investigating ultra-trace levels of compounds?even in a complex mixture. It is not surprising that gas chromatography is viewed as the ideal technique for investigating the complex chemical systems often encountered in biochemical, biomedical, and clinical studies. This is the first handbook of modern gas chromatography techniques that addresses those essential to the complex separations demanded in biochemical, biomedical, and clinical studies, subjects often overlooked in other textbooks. Essential to the scientist who needs only the representative GC techniques useful in real applications, Gas Chromatography provides the muscular basics of the discipline?without needlessly detailed theory. Its balanced and timely look at both techniques and applications is designed to meet the needs of both novices and experienced users of GC. Inside you?ll find discussion of:
