ROBERT L. CLARK is Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science at Duke University. WILLIAM R. SAUNDERS is Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Virginia Polytechnical Institute and State University. GARY P. GIBBS is Research Scientist at the Structural Acoustics Branch of the NASA--Langley Research Center.
