Inhaltsangabe

Quantitative tools for evaluating and improving the strength ofconcrete

Concrete is a complex material of vital importance to the civilengineering and construction industries. Strength and RelatedProperties of Concrete addresses the most important single propertyof concrete--its strength--with the goal of contributing toconcrete's technical and economical improvement. The book is uniquein containing, in a single volume, all of the quantitative toolsneeded to evaluate, understand, and improve concrete quality.

This hands-on guide demonstrates how to fine-tune the compositionof concrete to maximize its strength. It presents the bestnumerical relationships for concrete technology that are currentlyavailable, examines them experimentally, and illustrates theirpractical applications. It also provides a basis for improving boththe fundamentals of concrete technology and the way this technologyis taught to engineering students. Computerized formulas forstrength testing are included on a floppy disk.

Topics covered include:
* Proven methods for testing compressive strength
* Important relationships between composition and strength ofconcrete
* Timely applications of advanced cement-based materials
* Elastic deformations of concrete
* Essential properties of cement pastes

Anyone involved in concrete technology, from engineers to concretemanufacturers, will find this practical reference book anindispensable tool.
