At the beginning of the twenty-first century environmental change is a pressing public issue, and not just in the rich countries of the northern hemisphere. Paolo Squatriti is an Assistant Professor of History at the University of Michigan, and author of Working With Water in Medieval Europe: Technology and Resource-Use and Water and Society in Early Medieval Italy, 400-1000.
