Prof. Corrado Ricci, pubblicata l'anno decorso in cotesta città, ed intitolata I pri mordi dello studio bolognese, condotta diligentemente sui resultati di accurate indagini archivali, destò in me il pensiero di propormi la medesima ricerca, partendo da un altro punto di vista; cioè traendo profitto di altri materiali storici, col prendere in esame la letteratura giuridica medioevale. Le mie indagini continuate per vari mesi mi fecero accorto, che molte ed importanti notizie sono sparse in quelle antiche opere, oggi quasi neglette, e che esse potevano giavar molto per gettare un nuovo raggio di luce, tanto sulla questione delle origini dello Studio bolognese, quanto sopra i suoi rapporti colla anteriore scienza del diritto.
