Excerpt from Growth Studies With Swine
The pigs in each lot received the same basal ration, consisting of 300 pounds of white corn, 100 pounds of buckwheat middlings, and 20 pounds of tankage. The pigs were weighed every two weeks and were fed this mixture at the rate of pounds of feed for each 100 pounds of live weight, the daily amount remaining constant until the next weigh day. The pigs were fed twice daily. Toward the end of the experiment the pigs failed to clean up this amount of feed, so that the ration was reduced to 4 percent of the live weight. This was true in the case of the normal pigs as well as those showing symptoms of avitaminosis. All lots received a mineral mixture at the rate of 2 ounces for each 100 pounds of live weight daily.
