Excerpt from The Photographic Emulsion: After-Ripening
These relatively coarse-grained negative emulsions are not produced from fine-grained emulsions by ripening, but the grain size is determined by the condi tions of initial precipitation. High concentration of the reactants (agn03 and kbr), low concentration of gelatin, high temperature of mixing, and retarded addition permit the process of recrystallization to take place at once, with the formation of definite, coarse-grained suspensions.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the fascinating world of photographic emulsion, exploring the complex processes that govern how light is captured and transformed into an image. The author takes readers on a journey through the science of photographic emulsion, examining the factors that influence its sensitivity and the techniques used to manipulate its properties. The discussion of after-ripening, a crucial stage in the development of photographic emulsions, is particularly insightful. This process, which involves a series of chemical reactions after the initial mixing and ripening of the emulsion, dramatically impacts the final sensitivity of the photographic material. The book explores the impact of various factors on this process, including temperature, bromide ion concentration, hydrogen ion concentration, and the type of gelatin used. By examining these variables, the author sheds light on the intricate mechanisms that underpin photographic sensitivity and the remarkable power of after-ripening to fine-tune the performance of photographic emulsions. This detailed investigation offers a compelling glimpse into the scientific principles that shape the art of photography. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
