Quaecumque formulae huic orationi insertae sunt, codice Parisino 23, praestantissimo illo orationum Demosthenicarum libro, non exhibentur,' sed in ceteris modo codicibus, quibus vulgo a viris doctis minor auctoritas tribuitur, nobis tra ditae sunt. Sed in hac quidem de fide litis instrumentorum quaestione auctoritatem codicum non ita multum valere, rectissime jam demonstravit Kirchnerus,2 cum et formulae, quas fictas esse jam probatum est, in optimis libris exstarent et quas genuinas esse jam ostenderunt viri docti, deessent. Quomodo autem id fieri posset, Christins optime exposait. Cum enim Atticus formulas quam maxime ab editione sua amovere studeret, in Alexandrinorum libris servatae sunt, nisi casu nonnullae perierunt. Postea autem, cum aptum videretur formulas verbis oratoris additas esse, in multos alios codices litis instrumenta ex Alexandrinorum libris translata sunt; contra in archetypum Parisini haec instrumenta non recepta simt, sed saepius commenta falsa riorum invaserunt. Quare codicum auctoritate plane neglecta, potins formulas ipsas examinemus, utrum genuinae sint neone.
