United, as he supposed, upon'a principle of esteem and rational admiration, rather than of pas si'onate, attachment With Lady Ellen, for one year Osmond believed himself to be a happy man. At the end of that time he began to be haunted with slight, as yet but very slight inclinations, a little in opposition to the prevailing tastes.
