You, Sir, who have brought your Country, by a continued Series of Blunders, into Circumftanees infinitely worfe than They left it? The Gen flenzan, whom I defend, is confifient with Him felf: He could not approve the Treaty of Utrecht; much lefs could He approve the Treaty of Seville: or any other of your late fieaties. He eon demn'd the Meafures of the finer la/t Tears of Queen Anne 3 and He, a firtiori, condemns your Meafures, for the la/i ten Tears, upon the fame Principles of Reafoning; for whatever Mifearriages, or even Misdemeanors may be juf'tly charged upon thofe Times, You, Sir, are the lafi Perfon in the Kingdom, who ought to reproach the [mini/tors with them, fince your own Conduct is an ample Apology for them. 'vvith what Defign then are thefe Things mentioned? What pafs'd fo many Years ago cannot be recalled 5 and if any Thing was done amifs, the only Ufe of reviving thofe Tranfaetions, is to avoid the fame Errors in our prefent Conduct. But This is not your Defign. You are in Hopes of diverting the Attention of the Publick from your own A'fizonr. You want to put us off from the Scent of what is doing at prefent, and draw us into a Difpute about Things, which pafls'd in another Adminif'tration. You may think your felf extreamly cunning in trying this Stratagem; but nobody will be fo weak as to bite at the Bait.
