La campagne, heureusement pour la Belgique, ne fut pas longue. François Ier s'empara assez rapidement de Hesdin, de Pernes et de Saint - Venant, puis battit en retraite, préférant diriger toutes ses forces sur l'italie. L'armée flamande pénétra à son tour en France, se rendit maîtresse de Saint - Pol et assié geait Thérouanne, lorsqu'une trêve de dix mois, s'étendant aux pays-bas et aux provinces limitrophes de la France, fut conclue à Bomy, le 30 juillet 1537. On y stipula une entière liberté de navigation pour les bateaux de pêche appartenant aux deux peuples, et les contestations relatives aux prises de mer faites de part et d'autre durant la lutte furent soumises à l'examen de tribunaux spéciaux, siégeant à Bologne et à Dunkerque.
