This is a revised and expanded edition of the title first published in 1976. Additional material has been included in this addition. As the authors explain, Islamic calligraphy traditionally took its inspiration from the Muslim belief in the divine origin of Arabic writing, the medium through which the Qur'anic revelation to the Prophet Muhammad was recorded.
