Baseline data on population statuses, demographics, and natural history are lacking. Funds for biodiversity surveys are scarce, trained scientists are few, and time is short, making it critical that information be collected using standard methods that will maximize the comparability of data between sites, across habitats and taxa, and over time. In this volume nearly 60 experts on the study of reptilian biodiversity recommend methods for carrying out standardized quantitative surveys of reptile biodiversity. The contributors discuss each method and the circumstances for its use, provide detailed protocols for its implementation, and suggest ways to analyze the data. This volume will allow scientists, managers, and conservationists, both professionals and amateurs, to inventory and monitor of the diversity of this poorly know, but exceedingly important group.
