McClane is perhaps the dean of the older generation of fishing writers. He is a predictable quantity, and tales of his fishing exploits (for bonefish, trout, bass, etc.), combined with technical pointers, will continue to please audiences whose literary tastes are formed by Outdoor Life. Although McClane has ceased to be among the most articulate members of the trade, his straightforward style makes him worth reading.
