In Kentuckea, Dan Hawk is fascinated by the outdoors. After his grandfather teaches him how to survive in the wild, Hawk hunts, traps, and fishes. As his family grows, concerns push Dan away from the outdoors and into the world of business, where he still manages to pass on to his children and grandchildren the traditions he's learned. In between, the novel "is the story of the journey of a woodsman and is based on a true story. It encompasses a romance with a woman, a romance with a creation, and a romance with a creator," according to the author, Carl Miller.
