The concept of procedures is introduced early in chapter 4 (in connection with top down programming design), and then is covered in detail in chapters 10 and 11, making it easy to cover or omit as needed.

Teaching experience: M.I.T and Boston College; currently at Brooklyn College. Publications: Fourteen articles in research journals and eight computer programming textbooks.
