Inhaltsangabe

Kenneth Slessor, born Igor, is by general consent among the foremost of Australian poets and, by the acclaim of some, the best. Australia's most distinguished literary historian, H. M. Mr Semmler who writes in appreciation of Slessor is the Deputy General Manager of the Australian Broadcasting Commission. He is the author of a book of essays and studies, For the Uncanny Man, on James Joyce and others; has written monographs on the Australian balladists A. B. 'Banjo' Paterson and Barcroft Boake in the series

Australian Writers and Their Work and also a full-length biographical study, The Banjo of the Bush, the first yet published, on Paterson. As an editor he has made notable contributions to the appreciation of Australian literature, with such collections and anthologies as Literary Australia, A Frank Hardy Swag, Stories of the Riverina, and Coast to Coast 1965-6 (a biennial collection of Australian short stories). He is at present preparing Twentieth Century Australian Literary Criticism for the Oxford University Press. Mr. Semmler is a principal literary reviewer for the Sydney Morning Herald, and was for many years associate editor of Meanjin, Australia's longest-established literary journal.
