SI Edition (1971) is from that glorious age when maths textbooks: Assumed you owned a slide rule Expected you to show your working in pen And believed, quite sincerely, that a few hundred pages of algebra, calculus and trigonometry were good for your character This is pure mathematics, in the sense that there is very little padding and absolutely no hand-holding . What?s inside (besides your academic flashbacks) You get the full school-to-early-university treatment: Algebra : Equations, inequalities, functions, and the dawning realisation that letters are now numbers in disguise Trigonometry : Sine, cosine, tangent Identities to prove Diagrams that look deceptively friendly until the exercise number starts with a (iii) Calculus : Differentiation and integration introduced in that brisk, 1970s Longman tone: ?Here is the idea.
