Aus dem Klappentext

A series of child murders that took place in and around Manchester in the 1960s shocked and scandalized the country. The two people responsible, Myra Hindley and Ian Brady, were tried in a sensational case and sentenced to life in prison. The horrific nature of their crimes made them two of the most reviled characters in Britain, and for the last forty years, every detail of their lives behind bars has been played out on the front pages of the nation's newspapers. Four children were murdered and buried on Saddleworth Moor by Hindley and Brady; the body of one of their victims, Keith Bennett, is yet to be found.

In 1999, Duncan Staffmade a documentary on the Moors murders for BBC2. In the course of producing the programme he began a correspondence with Myra Hindley in which she spoke candidly about the crimes. The programme aired, concluding unquestioningly with a reaffirmation of her role in the murders. After Myra Hindley's death, Duncan was sent her unpublished papers, a cache of photographs and the letters she had written to her family from prison.

Using this unprecedented resource, combined with the cooperation of the families of the victims, the police and expert witnesses, Duncan Staff has written what is as close to a definitive book on the subject as we are ever likely to read. It is a chilling investigation into the nature of evil, and casts new light on the motivation for the murders, the nature of Hindley's relationship with Brady, and her life in prison. In marshalling this new evidence it is also a call for a renewed effort to find the body of Keith Bennett.

The Lost Boy will stand as a classic work of investigative journalism and is a compelling exploration of the most notorious crimes in Britain of the last hundred years.
