A vibrantly illustrated children's book about an Indigenous girl who discovers the miracles that blossom each spring and learns how Creator's gift of courage can transform the way we see the world and ourselves.
It’s time to welcome a new season, and this spring is going to be extra special. Dani, a proud Potawatomi girl, and her family prepare to celebrate the new year, which the Potawatomi and other Anishinaabe people observe at the beginning of spring with a camping and climbing trip. Dani is excited for the adventure, but also nervous. The rocks are so big. Will she make it to the top of her climb? As Dani explores the awakening woods and makes memories with her family, she learns to draw on the courage Creator gives while finding inspiration in the miraculous new life Mother Earth brings forth each spring.

For Anishinaabe people, spring is the start of the new year—
the time to tap maple trees for syrup and celebrate everything
waking up after a long winter.
Spring, mnokme, is coming! Dani and her
family are excited to welcome a new season,
and this spring will be extra special.
Dani; her brother, Bo; their parents; and their dog,
Sam, are all going on a trip to the mountains!
They will camp, climb rocks, build a special fire, and
eat a big meal to celebrate spring.
Spring is when Dani’s family
celebrates the new year,
because it’s when all the
animals and plants wake up
after their winter rest.
While Dani packs, she thinks
about the miracles of spring, like the
flowers blooming, the insects and
animals coming out to say hello, and
Grandfather Sun shining brightly.
