Set in a random, suburban community (that could be yours) and told through the point of view of different characters, Shades of Gray is a biting satire explaining what has happened to the current generation of Americas children. What begins as a plan to seduce a fellow student spirals into a tale of one-night stands, addiction and apathy. The story weaves its way through the lives of people in this community who are only connected because of who they buy their drugs from or who they sleep with. Nate, nihilistic and sexually frustrated, wants to sleep with the new student, Katie, emotionally neglected and an alcoholic, who only wants Steve, who uses his spirituality as a mask to guard his insecurities. Once successful, Steve is thrown into a world where sex is meaningless and the only way to feel is through drug induced trips. The characters continue their lives through the end of the year, where random incidents set off a chain reaction that will alter the way they live for the remainder of their hopeless existences.

Paul Shkreli lives in Clarkston, Michigan with his family and attends the local high school. This is his first novel.
