America's health is not good. In 2007, we spent $2.2 trillion on healthcare, which is an average of $7,421 per person, per year. The secret is, you can prevent many of the health problems that are bankrupting America today: Heart disease, cancer, diabetes, depression, chronic pain, and obesity. These are called chronic preventable diseases. But you have to put the work in to prevent or rid yourself of chronic illness. If you don't want to put in the work, don't read this book. It's not that it's hard to do, but it's a change. It's different than what you're used to, but if you're willing to give six little, measly months to your health, this guide is for you. Just because something has been done a certain way for years, doesn't mean it's the right way to do it today. If that were the case, we would still be using typewriters. We would still be wearing Chuck Taylor basketball shoes. We would still be using the old golf clubs. As bestselling author Harvey McKay states a, "good leader understands that anything that has been done in a particular way for a given amount of time is being done wrong." In America's health care, things have been done a certain way for a period of time, but that does not mean it is giving us healthy results. Get Healthy Now for Life examines the myriad reasons and the action steps you can take to improve your health, and America's health. It is up to you, no one else, to put in the time (and sometimes the money) to get healthy now and live the life you've always dreamed.

Dr. Ryan (as he is known to his patients) grew up in a small town that taught values, discipline, and hard work. He learned most of those attributes from his parents and community. His drive and ambition were formed at an early age, much of it due to his older brother. He wanted to perform at his absolute best, leading him to various accomplishments athletically and academically, including academic all-state and high school valedictorian. His future ambitions were shaped during his senior year of high school. He realized he wanted to help people improve physically, so he studied Movement Science in the Division of Kinesiology at the University of Michigan, from which he graduated Summa Cum Laude with his first Bachelor's of Science degree. Because of Dr. Ryan's past experiences and desire to stay involved in athletics, he chose to become a chiropractor. He went to National College of Chiropractic (now National University of Health Sciences) in Lombard, Illinois, to continue his education, where he earned a second Bachelor's of Science degree and graduated Summa Cum Laude with his Doctorate of Chiropractic. After graduation, he moved to Cary, North Carolina, where he and his wife ran a successful practice from 2000 through 2006. Although he and his family enjoyed their time there, they were 800 miles away from their family and decided to move back to Michigan in late 2006. In addition to being a Doctor of Chiropractic, Dr. Ryan also earned his Certifications as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist and a Chiropractic Sports Physician, and is in Advanced Standing as a Youth Conditioning Specialist. He works with local high school athletes to improve their performance, prevent injuries, and instill a lifelong habit of healthy activities. Today, Dr. Ryan and his wife, Dr. Monica, own Total Health Chiropractic, a community leader in health care and education in Lansing and Westphalia. Their passion is to help families and their community become physically, chemically, and mentally balanced (i.e. Get Healthy) through chiropractic care, exercise instruction, nutritional counseling, and de-stressing techniques. Their goal is to make a positive difference in the lives they touch. Dr. Ryan and Dr. Monica have 3 little girls, Rylee, Dylan, and Kaelyn. With their work in their practice and community, they hope to leave a legacy for their family that will last for generations.
