Friedrich Nietzsche (1844-1900) was a German philosopher who wrote critical texts on religion, science, morality, and culture. His best-known works are Beyond Good and Evil, Thus Spoke Zarathustra, and The Antichrist. He is often quoted as having said "God is dead." See his book The Gay Science for the context.
