The revenue from customs during the year 1870 was The revenue from this source during 1871, instead of being $26, less, was 408, or nearly twelve millions more than it was the year before the estimated reduction was made; during the following year, 1872, the revenue rose to 287. This is the way the reduction of duties reduces customs revenue.
