Inhaltsangabe

John F. A. Sawyer explores the vision of Isaiah in the first thirty-two chapters, emphasizing its timeless relevance for readers today.

This prophetic Old Testament book begins by telling the reader that it is the "vision" of Isaiah. The use of the word "vision," John F. A. Sawyer explains, conveys to the reader that regardless of when the prophet lived, "his 'words' go beyond the immediate historical circumstances of his day." They are addressed not only to the citizens of eighth-century B.C. Jerusalem or to the Babylonian exiles....It is we who are addressed by this, the first and, from the Church's point of view, the most influential of the Old Testament prophets." In guiding the reader through this rich and enormously influential book, Sawyer concentrates not so much on what actually happened as on why an account is given in one way rather than another and what it means for readers today.

The Daily Study Bible series seamlessly continues the legacy of William Barclay's renowned New Testament series by delving into the texts of the Old Testament, weaving together ancient wisdom and modern insights for a transformative reading experience. Perfectly tailored for individual study, spirited group discussions, or classroom exploration, the Daily Study Bible series offers an indispensable resource for spiritual seekers and scholars alike. Within these volumes, readers will encounter a profound exploration of the Scriptures, uncovering the profound messages they held in the past and discerning their relevance in the present.
