Ce style va paraitre ambitieux si je laisse du rer plus longtemps l'ignorance du nom que je porte, illustre depuis près de quarante années et, récemment, déshonoré avec éclat. Je suis le second fils et le troisième enfant du professeur Nicolas Langellier. Comme je n'existe, ni ma soeur et mes frères, que, pour ainsi parler, en fonction de lui, je dois, selon l'adage latin, commencer par Jupiter, j'entends par notre au teur. Je ne me tirerai point aisément du por trait. Les mots peignent mal, encore moins les mots techniques, seuls appropriés à un homme de science. Le vulgaire ne les comprend point. Il faut aussi compter avec mon incompétence. Je voudrais du moins savoir évoquer sa physio nomie: celles qui ne sont point insignifiantes signifient toute l'âme.
