David Long is the author also of The Daughters of Simon Lamoreaux, Blue Spruce, The Inhabited World, and Home Fires. He was born in Boston, 1948, an only child. He was raised in rural Massachusetts. He attended college in Albion, Michigan, married Susy Schweinsberg, and managed to stay out of the war. Attended graduate school at the University of Montana in Missoula, became a student of Richard Hugo, William Kittredge, and Madeline Defrees. He worked for MT's Writers in the Schools program, moved to Kalispell in the Flathead Valley, He and Susy had two boys, Montana and Jackson. He wrote fiction, played in a blues band (Tut & the Uncommons). There are lots of great novels about adultery, but it's rare to read one as pitch perfect as "The Falling Boy." There are lots of great novels with intriguing characters, good dialogue and a great setting but it's rare to find all three. "The Falling Boy" is a beautifully rendered work by an artist. You have the feeling that every page was chiseled from stone--and the product of a rich, penetrating imagination. The writing isn't fussy stuff. It's not look-at-me sentences and show-off prose. It's well-grounded, real and gives you the feeling you could walk into The Vagabond Café or down the main street of Sperry, Montana in the 1950s, where and when "The Falling Boy" is set. Long's prose style has been compared to John Updike's and that's apt. Long's vocabulary is more restrained, but he is just as poetic. There's an effortless feel to Long's prose, though much care has clearly gone into the work. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 254 pages. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 57907
