Gerald Bessler was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota where he attended both Lowell Grade School and Washington High School. He joined the Air Force during the Korean War. After majoring in Mechanical Engineering at South Dakota State College he worked in engineering and scientific fields for forty years in the Minneapolis, Minnesota and Denver, Colorado areas.
